Pink Monkey Characters at Helsinki Design Week

The Power of Positive Surprises: Pink Monkey Characters at Helsinki Design Week

To get noticed, you need to be different. Here’s what brands can learn from street art.

What happens when an artist’s fantasy becomes reality?

Studies show that art has a positive impact on well-being, yet only a small percentage of people go to museums and galleries. As a result, I came up with an exhibition inspired by guerrilla marketing and organized it together with our G-Rex artist collective.

We brought art, and more importantly joy, to where people are – the streets and the parks. There were psychedelic disco worms crawling on the ground and my pink monkey lazing in a tree. “Look, there’s another one!” a kid exclaimed as she ran towards the next piece. “These should be here every day,” a woman walking her dog noted.

Subsequently, we illustrated utility boxes in collaboration with Helen (Helsinki’s electricity network). “I’m so happy the monkeys are here again,” a delighted passer-by said when I was painting my pink monkey characters.

This is a learning for brands, too. Dare to choose bold and joyful visuals. Different gets noticed.

Admiring this work of art since it has been painted there. Though I see it every day, it never stops fascinating me.
